Mrs. Goose's Busy Day

One sunny morning, Mrs. Goose was flapping about her cozy little kitchen. She had a big day ahead! Her dear friend, Aunty Fox, was coming all the way from the upper end of the village to have a cup of coffee with her.

To make everything just right, Mrs. Goose baked a lovely, fluffy cake. It smelled so sweet that even the butterflies peeked through the window!

But that wasn't all—Mrs. Goose was also cooking a delicious lunch for her little one. She stirred, she chopped, and she hummed a little tune as she worked.

Now, Mrs. Goose knew her little one could be a tiny bit fussy when it came to lunch. So just in case, she made a special bowl of pasta too—nice and warm, with a big spoonful of ketchup on top, just the way her little one liked it!

With cake cooling, lunch bubbling, and pasta ready to go, Mrs. Goose smiled. It was going to be a lovely day.

The Magic of Christmas

Christmas, red cheeks, hot tea, sledding, snow

 I Just Love Christmas!

It takes forever to get them dressed. Stockings, sweaters, hats, scarves, gloves, snow boots... layer after layer. At last, I close the door behind them.

I have about an hour. Maybe an hour and a half. I think — maybe I'll have a coffee. Maybe I'll tidy up a little. Maybe I'll start lunch...

But before I even realize it, they're back.

I'm already peeling off their layers, listening to them excitedly chatter over each other about all the little adventures they just had. I kiss their cold, rosy cheeks. I hang damp clothes over every radiator in the house.I wipe up puddles from the floor. I put the kettle on for tea.

And somehow, in all the mess and noise and warmth, I pause and smil

The Smell Of Mom

the smell of mom, the smell of summer, the smell of the moment, the smell of clean laundry, the smell of a child's head, the smell of grass...

In the summer breeze, as the sun sets, mom hangs the laundry. She doesn't do it alone, she almost doesn't do anything alone anymore... She holds her child in her arms. Clothes don't hang easily with little ones in her hands, but she knows that when she puts him on the floor, he will either hang on her leg and cry that he wants to go in her arms, or he will quickly pull her clothes on the floor and laugh out loud about it. .

So she takes him by the hand, smells his hair, smiles and takes the offered pinch from him...

After The Summer Storm

silence, the smell of rain, the smell of coffee, a summer storm...

Quiet Moment

It's raining outside. The children are sleeping...I probably won't plant the strawberries today. I could tidy up, I suppose —but I don't want to wake them.I have to be quiet... Maybe I'll make a coffee and read a few pages of a book.

Or maybe…

maybe I'll lie down next to him for a while. Just a moment...

Under The Pine Grove

autumn, the smell of leaves, the smell of tea...

Autumn in the Air. The trees in the mountains are turning golden. You can smell autumn in the breeze.

We'll have tea when we get home. I baked an apple pie this morning.

He slept the whole way in the carrier, tucked close to me. And now... now he's wide awake.

Which means I won't have much time for myself.

We'll sit by the window,  hide under a blanket and read a book. Share a slice of pie, and let the quiet of autumn wrap around us both.

Mother Fox

cossacks, bitter gourds, summer boletes, rosy russulas, porcini mushrooms, chanterelles...

"Is Mom ready yet?"

"Will it taste like Grandpa's?"

Mushroom vegetable soup with gnocchi — my favorite. We got the recipe from my dad, and he still makes it best.

This summer, my sister and I went mushroom picking with all four kids in tow. It was loud, chaotic, and full of laughter.I almost never find anything —though, honestly, since I started wearing glasses, I do spot a mushroom here and there...

It's not just about the soup. It's the stories, the smell in the kitchen,

the way Grandpa gives tips as he tastes the broth, and how somehow, even the smallest bowl feels like home.
